The Boat People

Acrylic on Stretched Canvas. Unframed. Artist's Statement: "The Boat People" depicts an imagined scene of the influx of refugees from Indochina who arrived on Philippine shores after fleeing the humanitarian crisis between 1975 and 1990. I was inspired by images from a pilgrimage to Morong, Bataan, where memorials of the refugee processing center can be found. The image of a family is a reminder of the refugee crises that persist to this day.
